Summary:
Achievements and Experience: Completed the Diploma of Fine Arts at Warrnambool CAE, Victoria in 1978. Since then has perfected the method of clay construction on various subject matter and particularly animal studies both domestic and wildlife and also figurative portraits.
Through involvement in wildlife art, co-foundered the Queensland Wildlife Artist’s Society in 1981. Served in an executive capacity for many years, and was awarded life membership.
Inspired by the human form, has created many remarkably lifelike portraits and figure studies in clay and bronze.
1990 Involved in community artwork on the UFO project with Hands on Art, Brisbane. This project involved members of the Lutwyche community participating in the making of a wall mural in fired clay. This is now mounted at the Lutwyche Shopping Centre.
2001 Commemoration of Federation, Oversaw a 2-week community group project in Charters Towers creating a series of life-size figures that typified residents in the era of Federation.
2001 Worked with members of the Maleny community preparing 5 large images in decorative clay tiles that have been incorporated in the pavement outside the Community Centre in Maple Street.
2000 - 2005 Worked on an enormous project, building a stone house private residence.
2003- 2004 Completed a commission for a large shopping centre complex in N.S.W. The project involved making a pair of life-size dolphins for a fountain garden. The dolphins were completed in cast aluminium.
2006 Involved in design development proposals for streetscape sculptures in Maleny for Caloundra City Council.
2008 Completed the first of three public sculptures in steel for Port Stephens Council as a feature for a newly constructed roundabout at Nelson Bay.
2009 Completed public sculpture “Herd of Cows” for Sunshine Coast Regional Council, sited in Maleny, Queensland.
Workshops:
The essence of all workshops has been to encourage participants to explore the wonderful medium of clay and to develop the individual’s artistic attributes. Where relevant, to invite them to explore ideas associated with their cultural background.
Workshops have been a key element for more than 25 years, and are conducted regularly from the Maleny studio, and in numerous centres throughout Queensland, interstate and overseas. These include workshops with the McGregor Summer School at the University of South East Qld, Society of Sculptors Queensland, Queensland Potters Association and over 25 different community groups and schools throughout Australia. The first international workshop was held in Italy in 2007.
