JANNA PAMEIJER   -     ARTIST STATEMENT - Commentaires

As a Sculptor and Artist, I am very passionate about the process of communicating through form and line, encouraging the viewer to interact with my work visually,  and physically through the tactile senses.

My Sculptural Art is usually completed in either metals or in clay, and includes detailed studies of Portraiture and Figurative forms.  I am also a tutor in Clay Sculpture Design and Construction. Painting and understanding colour are also important in my creative field.

Concepts of my work begin as romantic notions which are depicted as sketches on paper or as models in clay. My subject matter is varied.  In my public sculptures and community projects I have a special interest in portraying the chosen native, bovine or marine life in the context of their geographic and historic relevance with the key intent to delight the viewer and to invite a closer understanding of their presence or demise in our environment.

My Public Sculptures are manufactured in aluminium or steel, finished and coloured using highest quality products, and with due consideration in the design for public safety and durability

When designing with steel in mind, I am particularly excited by the drawing process reconfiguring the composition to create the fluidity of its intended lineal or solid presence. Some of my art works comprise of multiple elements which allows the viewer to move in and around the work creating an ever changing field of lines against the backdrop of their environment.

Community Projects are completed in clay as this medium is ideal for its interactive quality suited for the relevant participating groups.  When collaborating with community groups I am encouraged by their response to the tactile nature of clay in which marks can be made spontaneously and freely. Fired clay is of a highly durable nature and is particularly suited for pavements and walls for a colourful inclusion.

My most recent public work, 'Herd of Cows' was completed in December 2009. Its design came from my experience of living in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland where dairy farming now is an industry of decreasing importance. I represented cows as outlines infilled with mesh divided by lines which echo those of the hills and valleys of the region. Colours of the 5 elements are in gold and silver - gold representative of the original breed and silver to represent the fading industry. They are placed at the site of the former Maleny Livestock Saleyards which ceased trading in 2004
